Privacy

Your pet’s photo deserves thoughtful handling.

What we collect to make, deliver and support your portrait, who helps us do it, and the choices you have. We never sell your information.

About this policy

Laurel & Paw (“we”, “us”) makes custom pet portraits and keepsakes at laurelandpaw.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have.

Effective date: October 19, 2026.

Contact: support@laurelandpaw.com · Laurel & Paw, 1480 Jamacha Rd. #205, El Cajon, CA 92019.

Information we collect

Photos you upload. Photos of your pet and, for People & Pets portraits, of the people you include — plus the previews and finished artwork made from them.

Portrait details. Names, dates, memorial wording, gift notes and the product, size and finish you choose, plus the age group and look (for example, adult or child) you pick for each person, so the portrait matches them.

Contact details. Your email address when you create a preview (we need it to save your portrait and send it to you), join our email list, enter a giveaway or contact us, and your name if you give it.

Reviews. If you review your order, your star rating, your words, your first name, your pet’s name and any photo you add. We show it on our site only if you tick the box that says we may, and only after we’ve looked at it, with your first name only. Ask us any time and we’ll take it down and delete it.

Order details. Name, shipping and billing address, phone, email, the items ordered and your order number. Card details are entered on Shopify’s secure checkout; we never see or store them. If you buy a gift card, we also collect the recipient’s name and email, your message and the delivery date, and use them only to deliver the card.

Customer-care messages. What you write to us and our replies.

Device and usage information. IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, recorded by our server logs and by Google Analytics cookies.

How we use it

To create your previews and final artwork, and to save your project so you can return to it.

To check each portrait looks like the people and pets in your photos. An automated check compares the finished portrait with your photos to catch mistakes. We don’t create or keep face templates, and your photos are never used to identify anyone.

To take payment, produce and ship your order, deliver digital files, and send order, download and shipping emails.

To answer your questions and resolve problems with an order.

To send offers and new portrait styles — only if you chose to receive them.

To keep the site working, understand how it is used, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet tax, accounting and other legal duties.

We never use your photos or portraits in advertising, on social media or in our gallery without your separate written permission, and we never use them to train AI models.

Who helps us

We share only what each service needs to do its job:

OpenAI creates the portraits and runs our quality checks from your photos. Data sent through OpenAI’s API is not used to train its models by default. OpenAI may keep images it processes for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, then deletes them.

Shopify runs checkout, processes payments and keeps order records.

Printify and its print partners make and ship physical items, and receive the artwork plus the name, address, phone and email needed for delivery.

Resend delivers our emails.

Google Analytics measures how the site is used.

Google Workspace hosts our support and business email. Anthropic provides AI tools that help our team check each order before it prints and draft replies to customer-care messages. A person approves every order and every reply, and Anthropic does not use this information to train its models.

Google Fonts provides the site’s typefaces; your browser connects to Google to load them.

Hetzner hosts our server and its backups in the United States (Ashburn, Virginia).

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our customers or ourselves, or as part of a sale or merger of the business. We do not sell personal information. If you arrive by clicking one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, we tell Meta when that visit leads to a free preview, a giveaway entry, a checkout or an order, sending the ad click id, your IP address and browser type, the order value and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address, so Meta can measure and improve our ads. California law may treat this as sharing for advertising. You can opt out at laurelandpaw.com/privacy/opt-out, or by turning on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser.

Cookies

A Laurel & Paw cookie remembers your saved preview and email-list membership, so offers such as the first-order discount apply on your device. Another counts the free previews made on your browser. Each lasts up to a year. A third remembers how you last arrived (for example from Instagram, Google, an email or an ad) for 30 days, so we know which posts and ads bring customers. If you arrive by clicking one of our Facebook or Instagram ads, a fourth keeps that ad click id for 90 days. Our own server also counts page views and visits; it keeps only totals, never your IP address or the pages you personally viewed. Your browser also keeps your bag and studio progress in its own storage so you can return to them. Google Analytics cookies count visits and pages viewed, with Google’s advertising features turned off; they last up to two years. Shopify sets its own cookies during checkout.

We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track: if your browser sends either signal, Google Analytics is not loaded and nothing about your visit is reported to Meta. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Some features, such as reopening a saved preview, may not work without cookies.

Email

Emails about a preview you saved, an order, a download or a delivery are sent because you asked for them. Promotional email is sent only if you opted in, and every one includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing does not stop emails about an order you placed. After you unsubscribe we keep only your email address on a do-not-email list, so we never email you again by mistake.

How long we keep it

Projects you order (your photos, the approved artwork and portrait details) are kept so you can reorder, until you ask us to delete them.

Projects you don’t order (photos, previews and portrait details) are deleted automatically 12 months after you last worked on them.

Working files made while creating a preview, such as discarded drafts and temporary copies of your photos (which we may look at to check a preview’s quality or fix one that didn’t come out), are deleted after 30 days.

Order records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires, generally up to seven years. Gift card records are kept while the card has a balance, and then as long as that law requires.

Giveaway entries are deleted 12 months after you enter; the winner's details are kept with the prize record. Entering also adds you to our email list, which you can leave at any time.

Customer-care messages and any photos sent with them are kept for up to two years after your request is resolved.

Email-list membership lasts until you unsubscribe. If you saved a preview without joining the list, we delete your email address 12 months later.

You can ask us to delete any of this sooner. Deleted information leaves our rolling server backups within about a week. When you ask us to delete your information, we also ask Shopify, Printify and Resend to delete their copies, unless the law requires them to keep them.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, delete or send you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can unsubscribe from promotional email at any time.

To make a request, email support@laurelandpaw.com with the subject “Privacy request”. We confirm it is you by replying to the email address on file, and we respond within 45 days. We will never treat you differently for using these rights.

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. We share limited ad-click information with Meta only as described above, and you can opt out of that at laurelandpaw.com/privacy/opt-out. We use photos you provide only to make and deliver your order. You may also make a request through an authorized agent with your written permission. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories described above, from you and your device, for the purposes described above. We are not currently required to comply with the CCPA, but we honor these rights for everyone. Financial incentive: we give 15% off your first order when you join our email list. We estimate list membership is worth about the value of that discount, and you can leave the list at any time. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes.

Photos of other people and children

Please upload photos of other people only with their permission, or as a parent or guardian for a child. Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Our site uses encrypted connections, print and download links are private and time-limited, and only our staff and the service providers listed above, as needed to do their job, can see order information. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us right away if you think something is wrong.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant and we have your email address, we will tell you by email.
